Learn About Bomb Pots

How Does Bomb Pot Poker Work?

Many aspects of Bomb Pot poker are the same as regular poker games, but there are a couple of major differences you need to know.

We’ll run through how Bomb Pot games work now.

You can find Bomb Pot games in the Cash Game lobby, marked by a bomb icon.

Find a game between $0.01/$0.02 and $25/$50, buy in, and take your seat.

Wait For a Bomb Pot

Bomb Pots usually happen every 16 hands when the feature is active at cash game tables. A bomb symbol will land on the table, followed by a size from 1BB to 3BB. This is the amount each player contributes to the Bomb Pot.

Preflop action is skipped, and everyone goes straight to the flop. From here, it’s a normal game of poker, except for the extra-large pot. In double board Bomb Pots, there will be two flops, two turns, and two rivers. The game has the same poker rules, with two boards.

CoinPoker’s Bomb Pot Game Selection

On CoinPoker, we have Bomb Pot games in several different poker formats.

Texas Hold’em

Texas Hold’em

Bomb Pots in the Texas Hold’em format run from $0.01/$0.02 up to $25/$50. With two hole cards, Bomb Pot hands can be a bit more passive in Hold’em than Omaha games. Also, since players are more likely to miss the flop in Hold’em, aggression can steal pots more easily.

Pot Limit Omaha (PLO)

Pot Limit Omaha (PLO)

Pot Limit Omaha Bomb Pot games run from $0.01/$0.02 up to $25/$50. PLO is the perfect poker format for Bomb Pot games, since many players usually find draws when they see the flop. This means players who understand hand equity can build huge pots with an advantage.

5-Card & 6-Card PLO

5-Card & 6-Card PLO

Running at $0.01/$0.02 up to $25/$50, PLO5 and PLO6 Bomb Pot games are the most action-packed of all cash games. Having five hole cards means draws are almost guaranteed for everyone in the hand, and that’ll lead to massive pots in most cases.

Bomb Pot vs Splash Pot: What Are the Differences?

Some players think that Splash (cash drop pots) and Bomb Pots are similar, but there are major differences between these games. Both are cash game features, and both use the same underlying poker rules, like hand ranking and betting rules—but that’s where the similarities end.

The two main differences are the source of the extra blinds, and the starting point of the hand.

  • In a Bomb Pot, the extra blinds come from players directly, but in a Splash pot, the extra blinds come from CoinPoker fees.
  • In a Bomb Pot, the action begins on the flop, but Splash pots play normally from the preflop stage.

Tip for Playing Bomb Pot Poker Games

Bomb Pot games create one of the most exciting poker variants, but there’s still a strategy to follow. We explain this in more details in our Bomb Pot Poker Guide, but we’ll give you a few tips for starting out, here.

Know When to Play Safe & Cut Losses

The large pot and many possibilities of Bomb Pot hands can lure players into investing—even when they shouldn’t. Think rationally about the situation, and the possibilities of your hand. Don’t get caught up in fighting for every Bomb Pot, even if you’ve paid a few blinds for it.

You’ll also need to be realistic about relative hand strength. On the flop, you have no information about other players’ hands. But, this doesn’t mean that everyone has 7-2 offsuit. Don’t assume everyone has weak hands and pay them off with mediocre hands based on the randomness of Bomb Pots.

Factor In Chop Potential on Double Boards

Having two boards in Double Board Bomb Pot means that at the end, the pot will be split into two halves. If you and one other player are fighting over a Bomb Pot, you must factor this in.

Let’s say you have the nuts on the first board, and absolutely nothing on the second. In this situation, it might make sense to play aggressively, hoping to make them fold a hand that beats you on the second board. If you don’t, you might end up chopping the pot and winning less.

Read Opponents with Limited Information

You skip the preflop stage in Bomb Pots, and miss out on some valuable information. But the good thing is, every other player misses out on that too. You could have pocket aces, or 8-3 offsuit, and nobody’s the wiser.

On the flop, automatically put players on extremely wide ranges. They could have any hand, and it’s only after the flop actions that we can start to narrow down each player’s range. This means your information-gathering must be precise, especially facing large bets or raises.
